A Look Back In Time

Established in 1923

The Akron Fire Company was established in 1923 and was comprised of three separate hose companies; The Cataracts Hose Co (East Avenue), Liberty Hose Co and Cement City Hose Co. Seen in the group photo (taken in 1914), first row Cement City Fire Co, second row Cataract Fire Co, third row Liberty Fire Co.  


Charter Members were appointed to make up one  Akron Fire Company.  Akron Fire Company officers appointed in 1923;  Oliver Altenberg (Chief), Leon Paxon (Fire Warden & Trustee) and Ross Parker (Trustee). 

Before 1923

Before 1923 there was a fire company that covered the area and those men are seen in the picture displayed. It was in 1876 that these men split up to form 3 seperate companies, The Cataract Hose Company, Cement City Hose Company and Liberty Hose Company.
